$LITE $MRVL Why would a switch-chip designer buy a laser maker? $LITE offered a clue the day it announced its deal with $MRVL: more than $5 billion in customer purchase commitments tied to its second major win for near-package and co-packaged optics. These designs move the optical connection closer to the switch chip. The fastest signals travel a shorter distance over copper, which helps reduce the power needed to move data between AI chips. That gives Marvell a reason to design its switches alongside Lumentum’s optics.
