TENS OF MILLIONS OF EUROS GONE IN A SINGLE DAY. THAT WAS JUST ONE COUNTRY'S FRIDGES. Now Britain is on alert to protect Tesco and Sainsbury's fridges, because hackers are remotely accessing similar fridges across Europe and turning temperatures up to as high as 80C. → 3 weeks ago, France: more than 350 sites hit. Fires. Food ruined. Intermarché's CEO put the cost at tens of millions of euros in a single day. The fridges hit were supplied by Danfoss, which also supplies British supermarkets including Tesco and Sainsbury's. → In the last 24 hours, at least 7 more countries: 🇸🇪 Sweden: ICA and Coop hit. One ICA manager: "Everything is destroyed." 🇧🇪 Belgium: at least 76 locations. 🇱🇺 Luxembourg: 4 Delhaize stores. 🇮🇪 Ireland: 13 SuperValu stores. 🇳🇱 Netherlands: at least 17 businesses. 🇪🇪 Estonia: one freezer set to +50C. 🇫🇮 Finland: several suspected attacks. → Store attacks were also reported in Poland, Germany and Portugal. Same kind? Not clear. → At least 6 US military base stores had freezer failures in late August. The Pentagon is treating them as a suspected hack. → In the UK, a security firm found last month that the login pages of more than 800 shop fridges can be reached online by anyone who knows where to look. Not a break-in. A front door on the street. It also found 15 Danfoss fridges on the open internet. Now look at what all of it is holding up: The cold that keeps your meat and milk safe to eat. One hacked night and the food doesn't just get warm. It gets thrown out. The UK's National Cyber Security Centre has advised retailers to patch the holes. EU agriculture commissioner Christophe Hansen called the attacks "a deliberate attempt to disrupt our food supply chain." Belgium's cyber centre said: "It is not known who is behind this attack, and it may never be determined." First France. Then at least 7 more countries. As high as 80C. Now Britain is on alert.
