Claude just got faster at handling million-token conversations. Anthropic launched message threads in public beta yesterday. Instead of resending the entire conversation and tool history every turn, agents now only send what's new. For long-running tasks with 500K–1M tokens, median time to first token improved by around 35%. It's already enabled by default for most Claude Code users. A few catches: - Threads are encrypted and stored in memory, not on disk. - They expire after 5 minutes of inactivity. - Once expired, you have to resend the full conversation. - Claude still processes the entire context every turn, so token billing stays the same. Faster responses, same token bill. That's the trade-off. The biggest win here isn't cheaper AI. It's less waiting around while your agents work.
