President Xi has no interest in joining the Ukraine peace talks with US and Russia. This illustrate an important quality about China and Xi himself. In that we are a serious nation with a serious leader, we do not engage in useless and time-wasting endeavors that leads to only a good photo-op and nothing else. The actions of our party and our leaders must result in positive outcomes for an issue presented, we do not go on a fool's errand. In contrast, the unserious nations in the world treat diplomacy as theater: one unnamed country routinely convenes high-profile “peace” gatherings, stages the handshake, issues a communiqué full of generalities, and then leaves without a ceasefire mechanism, without the key parties genuinely at the table, and without any follow-up that changes conditions on the ground. That is not statecraft; it is a photo-op dressed up as policy, and it is exactly the kind of fool’s errand a serious nation should refuse to join.
