【After 7 years solo, what changed?】 A business owner on Reddit had been doing the marketing, sales, and delivery of work alone for 7 years before hiring someone to do the work. It was scary but exciting. A different commenter said the biggest thing they learned with employees is that their idea of common sense won't necessarily be the same as yours. Their drive for the business to succeed will never be the same as yours, either. You need to define their role and responsibilities—even spell them out in an employee handbook—because what you consider “common sense” may not be obvious to them. Understand they're there for the paycheck and hopefully interesting work, not there to make you money. Hopefully, you can build a team that works off mutual interests.
