58% of Anthropic's Q3 revenue went to compute, up from 48% in Q2. Revenue per compute dollar fell from $2.08 to $1.72 in the same quarter, while compute commitments still total $895.4B, with $447.5B due by 2031. I read that as a pricing test, not a growth story. My checklist before I call any lab's margin healthy: 1) compute share falling for two quarters, 2) revenue per compute dollar rising, not just revenue, 3) commitments shrinking relative to revenue. Anthropic fails all three right now, even while revenue grows near 50% a quarter. Growth bought on rented compute still leaves the lab paying rent on its own success. https://techcrunch.com/2026/11/03/anthropic-is-still-grappling-with-the-economics-of-compute/
