1. Trump was absolutely right to strike Iran! Taking military action to defend America’s national security and interests and prevent Iran from ever acquiring nuclear weapons was the right decision. On this point, Trump was absolutely right! 2. America’s relationship with Israel has always been exceptionally strong under Trump, particularly when it comes to military cooperation against Iran. The U.S.-Israel relationship has been a major strategic partnership, especially in addressing the Iranian threat. 3. The cost-of-living crisis. Rather than simply blaming the war with Iran, the bigger issue is how the handling of the Iran crisis turned into a prolonged cycle of military action, pauses, indecision, and ultimately an incomplete resolution. The lack of a comprehensive and consistent strategy allowed the consequences to spill over into people’s everyday lives, turning economic pressure into a voter crisis. Who within the administration was pushing to halt or scale back the efforts, preventing the issue from being fully resolved? 4. Beyond inflation and gas prices, there is another major issue: immigration and immigration policy, particularly their impact on mixed-status families and diverse communities. Latinos are the largest minority voting group in the United States and play a critical role in national elections. One of the major factors behind Trump’s 2024 victory was the shift of Latino voters from the Democratic Party toward the Republican Party. This time, however, many of those voters shifted back toward the Democrats. Their trust has genuinely been hurt. Consider the reality of mixed-status immigrant families, where American citizens, legal permanent residents (green card holders), and undocumented immigrants may all live under the same roof. Their experiences, concerns, and sense of insecurity cannot be ignored. Immigration policy has a direct impact on entire families and communities, not just individuals. 5. Midterm and general elections are nationwide elections, not primary elections. They cannot be approached as if the only priority were protecting one’s own political base. Political leaders must listen to voices from different sectors, different levels of society, and people from all walks of life. They must hear different opinions and understand different concerns and demands, especially those of moderate and independent voters and immigrant communities. America has 51 political laboratories: 50 states and the District of Columbia, each with its own political dynamics, demographics, and voter concerns. These differences must be respected and taken seriously. We absolutely cannot allow extreme rhetoric or extremist factions to dominate decision-making while suppressing and drowning out the voices of moderates. The bottom line: Strong national security, a consistent foreign policy, an affordable cost of living, sensible immigration policy, and a willingness to listen to the entire country must go hand in hand.
