The current wave of American anti-China propaganda is especially insidious because it anchors on topics that avoid China altogether: -overly glazing India's economic development and poverty reduction -doubling down on demonizing North Korea This messaging is weaker, more indirect, but stealthily positioned to delegitimize China's achievements and mode of governance. Going unnoticed legitimizes the narratives, more so than overtly China centered propaganda, which inevitably hits a brick wall when debunked by actual exchange with the country. The first poses an alternate, rehashing statistics and accomplishments once associated with China to highlight that a large* poor country can put up "similar numbers" while upholding "democracy." This echoing of similar language and numbers glosses over vast differences in developmental history between the two countries. The second is an attack by association. Many Americans already associate China with North Korea, as a country with "similar political institutions" and as a patron. Subconsciously, the masses will associate China with North Korea's cyber attacks, repression, and bogeyman status in the latest COD MW. I sincerely believe that China and the US, as the two most consequential nations of this century, have a moral responsibility, obligation to deeply understand, and appreciate each other. Propaganda motivated by geopolitical posturing and shaping domestic public opinion detracts from that.
