The 2026 midterms are (almost) over, and it's a big blue wave. Republicans lost both chambers. The Senate stands at 44 R to 54 D w/2 states left to call, and the House at 139 R to 228 D w/68 seats still out. Why? Here's my take: Gas and diesel prices from the Iran war. Overall inflation is far lower than before Biden's midterms (3.4% vs. 7.1%), but after the media kept hammering on fuel costs, blue-collar voters walked away. Trump tried to undo 60 years of progressive drift in four years. He moved too hard and too fast, and it sparked a backlash. Young people are seeing fewer opportunities, and the socialists' pitch pulled young and independent voters toward "another path." That's what worries me most. Is this fatal for Trump? No. Reagan lost big in 1982 and then won a landslide in 1984. The economy still decides elections, and Trump's tax cuts, deregulation, energy policy and drive to bring investment home will pay off with time. He does need more patience and better messaging on immigration enforcement. So will he change course or stay the course? I hope he stays the course, including resolving Iran with an iron fist and turning energy from a liability into an asset.
